I often argue with my husband about the meaning and proper usage of the word “nonplussed.” He likes to tell me that cultural context counts for something and that even though it started out meaning something else, he can use it the way everyone else does. I think that’s a cheap way out. Then again, I really hate the usage of “sick” or “ill” or even worse, “retarded” to describe something that someone thoroughly enjoys. Way to be stupid America, way to be stupid. (Thankfully my husband does not describe my delicious cinnamon rolls as “retarded.”)
Anyhow, this is a nice chart. I think I’ll show it to my guy when he gets home. I like to gloat.
